Facebook - a necessity ?????

Yes of course! Facebook is necessary if you make use of it in the right way.
Few people claim that Facebook is complete waste of time. But I say that it’s necessary to be in Facebook so that you won’t feel insulated. I have made certain newsfeed preferences - settings in my FB account. Those settings allow me to see motivational quotes from WhiteHole, as the first thing when I log into FB, at any time in a day. Thanks to the creator of that page. It has motivational thoughts on almost every topic. I would like my day to be filled with a big bright smile rather than frowning. One way of doing that is reading quotes that add inspiration to my life. This is how I have arranged my newsfeed preferences in Facebook.
  1. WhiteHole
  2. Big Think
  3. Pundit Cafe
  4. Yahoo News
  5. Pages according to my other interests
White Hole:
Here is a short motivational story of a bamboo which I read in WhiteHole Page by Gen.
One day, a boy decided to quit. So the creator brought him to the forest. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?” the creator asked the boy. ‘Yes’, the boy answered. The Creator said, “I gave them (both fern and bamboo) water and light. I planted both of them. On the first month, a sprout came from the fern. In the whole year, the fern blanketed the forest’s floor. Whereas nothing came from the bamboo. On the second year, the fern even flourished coloring the whole forest green. Yet nothing happened with the bamboo. On the third year, there’s still nothing from the bamboo. On the fourth year, a tiny sprout of bamboo emerged from the Earth. It was seemingly small and insignificant. By that time, the fern had grown more vibrant. The bamboo showed no significant growth. But I did not quit on the bamboo. Months later, the bamboo rose over 100 feet tall. It had spent years growing its roots beneath. Those roots made it strong, gave it what it needed to survive. Now the bamboo towers the entire forest”. The creator then told the boy, “I did not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you”.

The picture above shows the WhiteHole Page in Facebook. The quotes usually would be motivational with pictorial illustration. The story of the bamboo by Gen gave me a huge impact on life.
Big Think:
Big Think provides me with the technical articles of all choice. I have read about how artificial intelligence works for humans, demonstration of invisibility cloak by Queen Mary University London (I read the article as I was much curious to know if it works the same way as it does in Harry Potter), how a student from Harvard University helped everyone get access to most of the journal publications for free and how did she make her efforts to achieve that etc. Below is the link to the article about invisibility cloak.

Pundit Café:
I have got insights from Pundit Café on how to search google effectively, how to use proper idioms. For example, I was not aware of the idiom “Use your noodles”. From Pundit Café, I learned that “Use your noodles” just mean “Use your Brain”.

Yahoo News:
Yahoo provides me with the different kind of news around the world. I was once used to watching Jimmy Fallon’s show in which he interviews the celebrities. I was rolling on laughing after watching, Peyton Manning and Magic Johnson goes one on one in breaking eggs on their heads, for Jimmy Fallon show. That was the funniest one which I had from Yahoo Newsfeed in Facebook. It was the Egg Russian Roulette game. This game of chance involves eight hard boiled, and four raw eggs. The opponents will take turns to choosing eggs from a carton, and then cracking them against their heads. The first contestant to smash two raw eggs loses the game. FYI, Peyton Manning is the former American football quarterback who played 18 seasons in the National Football League. Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. is an American retired professional basketball player who played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association for 13 seasons. The funny video can be found in the link below.

The news that I received in Yahoo Newsfeed today can be found below.

Other random things which I do in Facebook.
One may ask if I won’t be doing anything other than these, with my Facebook. Sure, I do! I have grouped my friends into a private group tab within my profile. When I feel that I have nothing to do with any of the above mentioned things or when I am completely bored, I give a peek into the newsfeed from friends. When it comes to my Facebook, I have all different kind of people sharing different things. If at all I get interested in anything, I read what is being shared. Or else, I ignore. The most important thing I would do is, giving likes to profile pictures of my friends who get few likes. Once a girl who is friends with me in Facebook was feeling bad that she receives less likes in her profile pictures. She said that she would feel good if she can get more likes. So I would give likes to friends who receive less likes and comments in their profile pictures, just to see a smile in their face and hopefully that would make their day too. Occasionally, when I get to view photos shared by my friends, and visit the posts that they have shared, I would just drop my like.
This is how I use my Facebook. All in one account. Using FB in this way, doesn’t make me to feel that I am insulated. When I have important works to do and if I feel that Facebook is going to snatch fair amount of my time, by reading posts, newsfeed etc., I don’t log into Facebook. It is as simple as that. Facebook is not necessarily a bad thing but rather, it depends on how you make use of it.

Google Maps - Is there a 12C ????!!!!!!!!

A trip that turned out to be an adventurous one because of Google Maps!!!

I was all set on a trip to an unknown place by searching google maps beforehand (10 days prior to my travel). I took multiple print outs of the onward and the backward routes so that not to get confused on my way even though I had the option of accessing google maps from my phone.

At 6.45 AM: Reached the bus stop from where I should board the bus.

(To a passerby girl, as there were two bus stops)

Me
My bus 12C is supposed to arrive by 6.56 AM. Where is the bus stop here for 12C towards Saligramam?
Girl
Is it 5C or 12C? Hardly, I have heard of 12C.
Me
I am sure that its 12C because I checked in google maps.
Girl
Oh ok, so then wait in this bus stop. Your bus will arrive.

(After 10 min of wait, since there were no hints of 12C coming towards the stop, to a boy)

Me
I need to get into 12C bus, but it seems that it’s not arriving at this stop. Is this the right bus stop where I am standing?
Boy
( Raising his eye brows) I don’t think that there is a bus named 12C. Is it 5C or 12C?
Me
No, it’s 12C. (Taking out the print out of google maps) See the map. The map says that this is the bus stop where I should wait. This is the bus that I should board into. Am I right?
Boy
Yes, right.
Me
So, now tell me, where is this stop and when is the bus coming?
Boy
Now it’s 7.05AM. Wait for some more time. Your bus may come.

(Further after 10 min, no hints of 12C coming towards the stop, to an auto-driver)

Me
I want to get into 12 C bus but there are no signs of this bus.
A.driver
Where do you want to go?
Me
Saligramam by 12C bus.
A.driver
You can’t go to saligramam from here. There is no 12C bus from this stop.
Me
(Showing the google maps) See the map. Is this written as 12C and this the bus stop where I should wait, right?
A.driver
But you can’t go from here to that place and there is no 12C.

(Auto driver calling another nearby auto driver and asking)

A.driver 1
She wants to go to saligramam by 12C. Tell her that there is no straight bus and there is no 12C.
A.driver 2
You have no 12C in this stop and you can't take straight bus from here. You have to change buses to go to that stop.
Me
(Showing the google maps again) Please, give answer for this.
A.driver 2
Someone has given you the wrong paper in your hands.
Me
I just want 12C. I don't want any other routes. Tell me how to get 12C.

(A.driver 1 to the 2nd auto driver)

A.driver 1
I have seen a new bus coming these days. It may be that bus.
A.driver 2
May be, but that bus does not come to this stop. She has to go to the next stop.
A.driver 2
(To me) Please, go to the next stop and board your bus.

By seeing a three way road at the next stop, I got quite confused. Where should I wait now for boarding the bus! It was getting quite gruesome. After seeing 3 traffic policemen, I ran into one and showed google maps and asked him where the stop to wait is. He showed me the stop. I was waiting there for 10 minutes again. No signs of bus coming. And I saw a schoolboy standing for bus and asked him,

Me
When is 12C coming?
S.boy
Is it 12C or 5C?
Me
12C to Saligramam
S.boy
That bus doesn’t come here.

(Another lady overhearing the conversation and coming for help)

Lady
You don’t have 12C here and you can’t go straight from here to saligramam.
Me
(Showing the google maps again), Is this the place where I am standing (pointing to the second place after the bus stop, which I stood earlier).
Lady
Yes!
Me
Now tell me how to catch 12C. I am waiting for this bus from 6.45 AM. But the bus didn’t come.
Lady
Take a bus and go to the third stop from here, get down, take left again and cross the road. You will get 12C there in the stop.

(Painfully without knowing the other way, I got into some bus which came over)

Me
I want to go to saligramam. I want to get into 12C. How should I go?
Conductor
You don’t have 12C from here.
Me
(Showing the google maps again), please look at this.
Conductor
There is no 12C from here.
Me
Ok, then give me a ticket to 3rd stop from here.

(After getting down at the third stop, I saw a four way road and confused which road to take and so to a girl passing by)

Me
I want to get into 12C Saligramam. Where should I stand?
Girl
I don’t know. I am new to this place like you.
Me
(Showing the google maps again to the girl) Am I standing in any one of the places mentioned in the map here?
Girl
I am not sure. Probably, you need to ask someone else about this.

(Seeing a bus named 12C passing by, I started running after the bus and got into the bus)

Conductor
Where do you want to go?
Me
Saligramam
Conductor
This bus will not go to Saligramam. You should have asked someone before getting into the bus.
Me
But google maps……(showing the google maps again)
Conductor
Please get down, cross the road and go to the bus stop nearby. You will find some bus.

(Completely enervated and without knowing where to go…found a bus stop nearby and to a lady waiting in the bus stop)

Me
Do you know if a bus named 12C comes to this stop?
Lady
Where do you want to go?
Me
Saligramam
Lady
I don’t know if the bus goes to Saligramam, but 12C comes to this stop. Wait for some time.

(Few min later, as there were no signs of bus, I approached a police lady standing nearby)

Me
I want to go to Saligramam by 12C. Will that bus come to this stop?
P. Lady
Yes, it comes and it is not frequent like the other buses. When do you want to reach your destination?
Me
At 10 AM.
P. Lady
Don’t worry. You have plenty of time left over. It’s just 8.30 AM now. Whatever reason you are going for, it will go on smoothly. I will tell you when the bus arrives. Wait in the bus stop for some more time.

(Bus arrived after sometime)

P. Lady
Your bus has arrived.
Me
(With a smile) Thank You.

(In bus, to the conductor)

Me
(Mentioning my destination and asking for a ticket) Sir, I do not know when my destination arrives. Could you please let me know when it arrives?
Conductor
(After issuing the ticket) Yes sure. But this bus will not go the destination that you are asking for.
Me
!!!!!!
Conductor
You have to get down in another stop and walk towards your destination. (Conductor to the nearby girl) Please, do let her know when the particular stop comes over.
Girl
(To me) Where do you want to go?
Me
Saligramam. (By showing the google maps) Do you know any of the places mentioned in the google maps here? Where am I now?
Girl
Don’t worry. I know the place in the map which is mentioned prior to your destination. I am going through that route. So when the stop arrives, I will let you know.

(Stop arrives and girl told me)

Conductor
This is not the stop which you were asking for. So take right and walk towards the main road. You will find your destination.
Me
Thank You.

(Walking towards the right and then towards the main road. My stop is there. Yayyyy!!!!)

@ Google maps: You told me that I have to take just a 12C from my place and so I could reach my destination in half an hour. I started at 6.45AM and now it’s around 9AM. Where is the 12C that you mentioned !!!!!!!!?
